I can scarcely recall the excitement that gripped me when it was first announced, it feels that long ago. Until then, I had always felt a sequel to Starcraft nigh impossible; since it could not conceivably live up to the expectations, what with Starcraft being one of the greatest RTS games ever, not to mention being the national sport of South Korea (so much so that any non-Korean Starcraft player is referred to as a “foreigner” by the community), and as such Blizzard would simply back off from the franchise forever.
They might as well have, I feel, given their incredibly slow development. And I would love to justify it with the standard Blizzard rhetoric of “It’s done when it’s done”, that they are taking their sweet time to really perfect the game. However, just looking at how long it takes them to release a Battle Report, or update their own, official Starcraft 2 website, makes it seem more like they are just lethargic, and almost as if they don’t know what they're doing, which worries me.
I can only hope their track record is enough to rely on, but given this is the first game they’re making (along with Diablo 3) since World of Wacraft, that devourer of souls and destroyer of lore, I’m not all too optimistic. Not to mention all the emphasis on “e-sports” and whatnot. But that’s the subject of another, soon to come entry.
Oh, and welcome to my new, for lack of a better word, blog.

I'd like to know what exactly is delaying the game. They said it's because of B.net 2.0 but did they seriously fuck up that bad? Personally, I wouldn't mind the wait so much if they throw us a bone a bit more often. Something like, 'today we made the code more efficient' or something. Hopefully there'll be some more blue with the new CMs.
Yeah, this keeping us in the dark strategy is really aggravating. I just try not to think about it.
I just hope one day I'll visit the forums and see the beta being started. That will probably be the only indicator as to how far along they've come until release.
there are rumors going about that the project is currently suspended, until further notice
they couldn't perceive the cost or development nor the extra development time bnet2 needed
furthermore, the game just didn't turn out how they wanted, so they are doig an overhaul on the entire system
this created the perfect storm which caused blizz to suspend the sc2 title, much like sc:ghost
No LAN? C'mon...
That's the Holy Grail of games.
I'm curious as to how it will turn out to be :D
One word, Cataclysm. After the merge with Activision in late 2008, not making it truly official until later in 2009, maybe around the time before Blizzcon2009? Makes it the basic reason for a company holding back on one the most anticipated games of all time.
Look back on some of blizzards show and tell periods of new games in development. Each copy of the new world of warcraft games had crisp blizzard style cinematic to back them up. Burning Crusade had one. Wrath of the lich king had one. But no cataclysm? All we get was an in game trailer, to one of the next installments to one of their biggest games in this present time? I feel some string pulling…
But its true genius. What way to make more money than to slip in the next WoW expansion right before starcraft 2.
Here’s a prediction. If Starcraft 2 came out before WoWs new light known only as Cataclysm. Few people will buy the new wow, or at least the number will go down, especially in Korea!. Why play an out of date, unbalanced MMO with a monthly fee attached? When you can play the next biggest blizzard game out in the market. If you’re going to play starcraft, then what’s the point in continuing your subscription to wow? Now obviously this is just a prediction.
But what if you released it after Cataclysm? Most of the wow players will buy cataclysm, and continue their monthly fee up until starcraft 2, likely because they have already finished most of what cataclysm provided. Allowing blizzard to own the night for a while longer. At that time, I can see blizzard putting a stop to their monthly subscription and go full online market system and faster expansion games for wow with little to no patch releases.
Maybe some of the reasons of the delay maybe to do with b.nets system, but I highly doubt that. Why have a beta release time and game release time both out months before blizzcon. Then turn back and say, “hey, we need to fix up battle.net.”
The whole we don’t have official release dates is just a classic blizzard move in order to control how the markets are playing. Don’t forget about the other companies. Oh, and don’t forget that Activision owns also one of the top selling games right now, a game that came out a bit early before the original release time of SC2. That’s right, Modern Warfare 2.
This is all just classic marketing practice for companies. Putting out a game during the best time they can. Profit.
